EMSB to Consult Marymount Academy International & James Lyng Communities on Temporary Cohabitation with Centennial Academy

A special meeting will be held at 6000 Fielding Avenue on Thursday, June 8 allowing those being consulted to express their feedback on the cohabitation proposal.  Subsequently, the EMSB Council will vote on the subject at their regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday, June 14.

Centennial Academy and Centennial College in NDG are from the private school sector and they cater to a diverse clientele, including students with learning disabilities.  Their current high school facility, owned by the Commission scolaire de Montréal, will no longer be available to them as of July 1.

“Centennial needs space to educate their students for one year until a long-term solution to their situation can be found; and we certainly want to do our part to help a fellow educational institution that, like ourselves, serves the English community of Montreal,” said EMSB Chairman Angela Mancini.

The EMSB conducted an analysis of its buildings in the west end of Montreal, where Centennial is currently located. It is being proposed that some of their high school students be based at Marymount Academy International, while their CEGEP students would be directed to James Lyng.

“Centennial is in a quandary and has asked for our help,” said Ms. Mancini. “We now must see if our school communities are agreeable to this temporary solution we have proposed.”
